The Japan Meteorological Agency officially monitors Mount Fuji for 'hatsuyuki-gesho" the first snowcap of the season. The peak is broadcasted 24/7 as the country waits for the snow to appear to signal that summer is well & truly over & winter is approaching. The snow must be physically visible to meteorologists stationed at the Kofu observatory, even if climbers or satellites reports it first.
